02 November 2023 Cheryl Pick, Strategic Projects Manager
Today we are really happy to share with you a new publication ‘The use and impact of technology on FM service provision in universities’, which is the report of the July 2023 roundtable discussion held with colleagues from our Strategic Facilities Management Group (led by Lucy Black of the University of Plymouth), and representatives from partner organisations including Sodexo, OCS and Skanska.
As Lucy Black explains in the document, ‘the Strategic FM group within AUDE commissioned a review into the use of technology in delivering FM services in the Higher Education sector.’ The roundtable event looked at three main headings, namely FM service delivery challenges; the development of new technologies; and their subsequent adoption.
The group discussion took in a wide range of issues and viewpoints including the nature of changing customer expectation post-Covid; the likelihood of AI impacting on FM delivery; the consequences of reduced footfall on campus services, and the income traditionally derived from such activities; challenges associated with the recruitment and retention of staff; the impacts on staff and trade unions of workspaces that are ‘technology enhanced’; and much more.
We hope you’ll find the report a useful prompt in thinking about these issues and as always you are welcome to feed your thoughts back to the AUDE office team, where we’ll ensure they are reflected into the ongoing discussion.
