Revolving Green Fund 2016/17 – Energy-Efficiency Funding for Higher Education Institutes

11 November 2016      Cheryl Pick, Projects and Engagement Manager

Building on the successes of the previous years, Salix is proud to announce the launch of the latest Revolving Green Fund. From its first round in 2008, the funding has acted as a catalyst for investment in energy-efficiency technologies which will reduce carbon emissions and create vital financial savings.

The funding is available for over 120 energy-efficiency technologies and is repaid from the savings made on energy bills.

Key dates:

  • Programme launched - 9th November 2016
  • Accepting expressions of interest – Mid-November 2016
  • Applications open - December 2016
  • Close of initial round - 10th February 2017

Salix is supporting early applications and expressions of interest so that HEIs can share with Salix the projects for which they are seeking funding. Salix will allocate sufficient funding to ensure that all eligible applications made by the closing date will receive the funding required, so advance notice of applications is encouraged. This will also enable Salix to support HEIs with their funding application.

Salix will also launch an additional round of applications, following the current round, which will be open through to August 2017. HEIs who intend to apply for this additional around are encouraged to register their interest by submitting an ‘Expression of Interest’ form.

Salix continues to support new and existing clients who are implementing strategic funding plans as they develop and deliver on their carbon management plans. Sharing these plans with Salix can allow a long-term, multiple year funding approach to be agreed.

Please let Salix know your plans to apply for funding by submitting an ‘Expression of Interest’ form.

Details on eligibility criteria for the funding will be announced by the end of November.

Notes

The name ‘Revolving Green Fund’ is being used by agreement with HEFCE.

Salix provides 100% interest-free capital for the public sector to reduce their energy costs by enabling the installation of modern, energy efficient technologies and replacing dated, inefficient technologies. It has worked with over 100 Higher Education Institutes and supported over 4,000 projects since 2006. HEIs have utilised over £130 million of funding for energy-efficiency projects, estimated to save more than £36.3 million and 185,000 tonnes of carbon each year. With this new round of funding, Salix will continue to enable this work to be undertaken at HEIs.

Over 120 energy efficiency technologies can be funded including combined heat and power, LED lighting upgrades, laboratory upgrades and ICT improvements. The full technology list can be found here.

If you would like to find out more about energy-efficiency technologies and how these have been implemented at HEIs and across the public sector, you can find project knowledge slides and other useful information in our Knowledge Sharing Area.
