  • An insight into how the media works – deadlines, what makes news etc.  
  • Understand the link between media coverage and your reputation 
  • Interview tips and techniques (what to say and what not to say)  
  • The use of key messages 
  • Dealing with awkward questions and negative situations  
  • Importance of tone of voice, body language and venue when undertaking broadcast interviews 
  • Summary and feedback

Pre-course preparation 

Completion of a simple questionnaire to gauge media experience, attitudes to media and to highlight any special requirements to ensure relevant course content 

Course delivery 

  • Tutor led skill development workshop, with role play and exercises 
  • One trainer to five delegates ensures sufficient time and support for practise interviews and subsequent feedback. 
  • Qualitative assessment by tutor during the Masterclass 
  • Recordings of mock interviews available on CD/DVD or as mp3/WMV files after training as required.

  • 9.30 – 10.00: Introduction. Aims of course and introductions
  • 10.00 – 11.00: Introduction to the media. How the media works.The structure of a media interview. Interview tips
  • 11.00- 11.15: Tea/ Coffee
  • 11.15– 13.00: Media interviews – practice: including the chance to have a go at a radio interview
  • 13.00 - 13.45: Lunch
  • 13.45 – 15.00: Media interviews – more theory and practice: including the chance to have a go at a difficult interview
  • 15.00 – 15.15: Tea/ Coffee
  • 15.15 – 16.15: Media interviews – theory and practice of TV: including the chance to have a go at a TV interview
  • 16.15 – 16.30: Summary and feedback
