AUDE Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Committee Chair vacancy

02 July 2026      Martin Higgs, Communications and Campaigns Manager

AUDE are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to chair our Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Committee, taking over from Stephen Wells, Director of Estates & Facilities at the University of East Anglia, who has led the group with distinction for the past four years. The position is open to any AUDE member with a genuine commitment to progressing EDI within the higher education estates and facilities sector.

The successful candidate will:

  • chair and drive forward the work of the EDI Committee, organised across its six annual themes
  • act as a two-way conduit between the Committee and the AUDE Executive Committee
  • support AUDE's ambition to be recognised as a sector leader in inclusive practice, in line with the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty
  • oversee delivery of the Committee's annual workplan, with progress reviewed at every meeting
  • ensure the Committee's work supports AUDE's Strategic Plan 2025-2031, in which EDI is one of six organisational priorities
  • work with other AUDE committees to ensure an intersectional approach across the association's work
  • represent AUDE and speak at events on EDI matters when required
  • conduct themselves in accordance with AUDE's values, known as 'who we are', and ensure others do the same
  • work closely with the AUDE Executive Director

Time commitment includes:

  • chair and attend four EDI Committee meetings per year and set the agenda
  • attend an additional four AUDE Executive Committee meetings per year, held in March, June, September and December (3 online 1 in person)
  • speak at AUDE events on request
  • commit eight to ten days per year to review papers and Committee activity

The term of office is three years, with an option to extend for an additional three years.

You will receive full support, an induction from the AUDE office and a warm welcome from the Executive.

If you are interested or would like to know more, please contact jane@aude.ac.uk / 01509 228836 by end of day 24th July. If more than one person applies, a vote will be taken by the Executive Committee in line with our constitution.

We particularly welcome applications that reflect a range of roles, institutions and lived experience, in keeping with the Committee's commitment to inclusive representation. All appointments will be made on merit, following a fair and transparent process. In line with the Equality Act 2010, AUDE may employ positive action where candidates from underrepresented groups can demonstrate their ability to perform the role equally well.

We recognise that time is often the biggest barrier to volunteering, so we're happy to discuss flexible ways of fulfilling this role, including job-sharing with a co-chair, so please don't let that put you off getting in touch.
