Over the last few years, government funding for university construction has decreased significantly, putting pressure on universities to get even more out of the buildings they operate. At the same, the increased competition in the sector means that universities are under constant pressure to provide the best possible built environment to impress and inspire current and prospective students. It’s never been more important for universities to make the right decision about the size, shape, and function of their estates, and make sure they provide the right buildings in the best way, and to the required standard.
To help universities get this right, the Association of University Directors of Estates (AUDE), and the British Universities Finance Directors Group (BUFDG), are working together to produce a Construction Toolkit for use in universities - a range of resources providing building procurement, planning, tax, project management, and funding guidance so that when universities begin to think about their estates requirements they have the resources to help them make the best decisions.
The resources from the starter toolkit are now available from the Toolkit page here. Further resources covering tax and other areas will become available over the coming months.
