The work of our estates and facilities colleagues over the last 18 months of the Covid pandemic has been extraordinary. They’ve done so much to keep our universities open. It’s time to salute the #AudeCovidHeroes – you’ve been brilliant. Thankyou aude.ac.uk/audecovidheroes

Sharing the stories of people who have gone above & beyond during the pandemic in their efforts to keep our universities on track. They are often behind-the-scenes staff that don’t always get the recognition they deserve. They are our #AudeCovidHeroes. aude.ac.uk/audecovidheroes

This month we are sharing the stories of estates and facilities teams in universities across the country – together with a huge Thankyou for their professionalism, determination and sheer hard work. They are our #AudeCovidHeroes.aude.ac.uk/audecovidheroes

Our core messaging which you may want to echo

  • Eighteen months after the start of the Covid-19 pandemic it feels like now is the right time to take stock of what we’ve achieved as university estates and facilities teams – and to say the most enormous Thank You to everyone involved in a simply huge team effort.

  • We are sharing these stories because we are just so proud of the work done by so many people working on the HE estate during Covid-time, and we want to recognise those immense personal efforts. But it isn’t just AUDE that is proud and grateful: it is our Vice-Chancellors, our Trustees, our Directors and our academic communities too. And indeed further still.

  • Our universities did not close. And they stayed open because of cleaning teams doing double shifts, and volunteering in NHS hospitals to learn the strictest new sanitation standards. They stayed open because our teams adapted, learnt new skills, and volunteered to do whatever needed doing. They stayed open because we played our part in our communities, providing accommodation for key workers who couldn’t safely return home each evening because of the risk of the virus. They stayed open as our teams delivered food parcels and pastoral support to isolating students. They stayed open as we configured and reconfigured our campuses to allow for social distancing. And by staying open we were able to play our vital role in the national response to an unprecedented situation.
